Stanney Track - Road/ Off-road/ Distance Group

The middle distance group is a good mix of runners of all ages and abilities who train together on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The group meets at 6:15 pm at the track at Ellesmere Port Sports Village (ex-Stanney Oaks Sports Centre, CH65 9LB), before a fifteen minute relaxed jog on the roads. This is followed by some warm-up drills, after which begins an interval session of efforts of any distance between approximately 200m and a mile, interspersed with recovery periods ranging from approximately one to five minutes. As everyone runs at their own pace but has the same recovery period, runners tend to naturally form into similarly-paced groups as the session progresses.

Although track-training may seem a daunting prospect if you have only trained on the road, many of our runners have found much improved fitness and confidence from even only one weekly track session of repeated efforts both shorter and faster than their usual pace. There is a £1 charge per evening, which contributes to the fee that the club incurs for use of the track. A fee of £8/month can be arranged by contacting the treasurer via the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this page.

If you want to give track training a try, turn up at Ellesmere Port Sports Village, Stanney Lane, Ellesmere Port CH65 9LB (next to the David Lloyd Fitness Centre) on a Tuesday or Thursday before 6:15 p.m. Alternatively, use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this page to enquire further, via either the "Cross Country/ Offroad" or "Road Running Secretary" link.
