WCAC Road Running Championship
In 2016, following a request from another club to include their race in our club road running championship, John Driscoll thought it would be a good idea if we actually had such a thing! The existing WCAC Endurance League would continue, in primarily rewarding consistency in taking part in events that the club enters as a team. The road running championship too would emphasise taking part in club events, but would specifically reward higher finishing postions in races and faster times in relation to a set of criteria.
The experimental version of the championship for 2016 will include all Cheshire Grand Prix and Borders League races (usually seven races per year in each competition), and another pre-determined six popular local races, to bring the total number of championship races up to twenty for the year. The overall score for each runner is determined by their highest points totals in up to eight of these twenty races, which must include at least one of less than five miles and one of at least ten miles from those on the list.
Points are gained according to:
- Position in a race, relative to other WCAC runners, with more points available where more WCAC runners take part (eg twenty points for 1st WCAC runner of twenty).
- Performance in relation to the World Masters Athletics age-grading system (to adjust ties according to a runner's age and gender, as on the parkrun results).
- Performance in relation to the BDS handicap system (like a golf handicap, to compare times over different distances).
A runner's points for these three criteria are summed to give their total for each race, with separate men's and women's tables posted on this page at regular intervals.

Do you know of another two races, of over 5k distance that we could include, to make a total of 20? Preferably around July, to even the spread of races throughout the year. If so, please send a message to "Road Running Secretary" via the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this page.
Please remember that this is an experiment which, if successful and popular with WCAC club members, will continue in future years.
