Endurance League Points Competition
2016 Competition
Men's and women's tables as at the end of September 2016.
Races in which points were gained between July and September 2016.
John Driscoll has, since 2008, organised an annual endurance events points competition for West Cheshire AC's senior and veteran runners, based on participation in road, cross-country, multi-terrain and fell races over the calendar year. This rewards those who run regularly for the club, with dual emphasis on events that the club enters as a team and on individuals' improvements.
Although the results below broadly show that running lots of races will improve your placing, several runners have moved up the rankings by accumulating bonus and performance points. A bonus point is awarded for running in any Cheshire Grand Prix or Borders League race, with additional points for running all races in either of these series throughout the year (e.g. eight points for running all eight Cheshire GP races). A bonus point is also available for running in any other event that the club enters as a team, such as the Cheshire Cross-country Championships. You can also gain performance points by equalling or bettering your "handicap" time set by John, based on your recent times over road race distances.
Most high-placers in the endurance league each year amass points by running on a variety of surfaces. As well as being a fantastically varied and testing branch of the sport in itself, and the traditional mainstay of club winter competition, those who have run cross-country, for example, can vouch for its positive effects on road-running performance. The club recognises the value of cross-country by being affiliated to four leagues, so you don't even have to pay entry fees - why not give it a go yourself?
See here for how points were calculated in the 2014 and 2015 competitions (some changes re Borders League and Wirral Multi-terrain points were made for the 2016 competition).
Thanks to John Driscoll once again for his work in compiling these tables. If you feel that any of the races you ran were missed from these tables (e.g. those in more far-flung areas), feel free to notify John via the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this page (select "Road Running Endurance Initiative" from query list), which you can also use to offer always welcome opinions on how your league should work.
