Chester Half-marathon
For 30 years from 1982, West Cheshire AC and its predecessor CEPAC were involved with the Half-marathon, initially providing expertise to the Chester Rotary Club organisers, then from 1983 ensuring the smooth running of the finish funnels. In 1994, race organisation passed to CEPAC, and a new route devised on partially-closed rural roads to the south of the city, to avoid increasing numbers of Sunday shoppers. A legacy from the Rotary Club days was the nomination of a local charity each year. The newly-formed West Cheshire AC organised the event from 1998, with vital administrative support from the Sports Development department of the local council.
As announced in May 2011, race organisation was transferred in 2012 to Active Leisure Events, the Chester-based team behind the Chester Marathon. The new course, starting at the Roodee and finishing outside the Town Hall, raises race capacity from 2,800 runners to over 5,000, and takes in some of the roads to the north-west of the city first used in the original Rotary Club route. West Cheshire AC still provide expertise and many race day officials and volunteers.
Previous years’ race results are listed below. We've only been able to find the category winners from 1982 – does anybody have a copy of the full results for that year? If so, please contact the Cross Country Secretary via the “Contact Us” link below.
